Cap & rotor

Hey everyone,
Has anybody replaced just the rotor & cap (GM part #10457293, GM Parts Direct price $116.00) on the optispark instead of the whole opti, and if so did it work ok?

Re: Cap & rotor

do they even have the MSD caps in yet? last I knew they were supposed to get them in March, but in mid-April they were still being backordered. the problem is that while it is comparable price compared to buying an OEM cap most people will replace a whole Opti because of it being a PITA to get to, and for vented ones it is about $250, to insure it wasn't just the cap and rotor or to insure that the optical sensor isn't about to go bad soon anyways. it just really sucks to have to go with $400 to replace an Opti and have the MSD cap.

Re: Cap & rotor

I've seen all the discussions here about Optispark failure, especially in the non-vented...

But in all my days with GM, I never once actually saw an entire Optispark unit replaced. We sold dozens of cap/rotor packages. Probably sold twice as many to Buick Roadmaster owners than we did F-body owners. Maybe that's just because F-body owners knew better than to go with OE!

As for your question, we never had any problems after replacing the cap and rotor. The misfires and no-starts were always cured, and the vehicles left running great.
