Canton 242T and Oil Level

For those using the Canton 242T pan, how many quarts of oil do you normally put in? I've got a HV pump also, if that matters. My engine builder insisted on it so no flames please

It's 6 qts. plus the filter capacity.

I use 5 plus the filter.... if you check you will notice that's all it wants.

They say 6qt system. I run a big filter though so I usually go between 6.5 and 7 in it. Check your dipstick if you managed to get it back in right.

The dipstick reading won't be correct for the new pan. The best way (if you still have access to remove the pan) is to fill the pan with the recommended amount of oil, put it in place, insert the dipstick, then mark the dipstick for the new "full" level.

With that being said, the dipstick reading should be around the low level.

Ok, don't actually measure how much the pan holds in it and then make your guess off of that.... or don't actually check it on the dyno to see what it needs and make your guess off of that...

With the extra capacity of the pan is it over kill to run an extra large filter?

Huh? The dipstick tube is attached to the block and the stick has a fixed depth in relation to the tube.

So the "Full" mark should be the same, regardless of which pan you use. Or am I missing something obvious?

I have a 242T and use 7qts with a filter change. It puts the dip stick level just a tick over the full mark.

With my main studs the tube would not slide all the way back into the pan like it is supposed to be.

For those with reading skills, I said "IF" you get it back in right. I had to cut an inch or two off the bottom of the tube. Now the dipstick probably hits the main cap or stud and gets deflected a bit, but it is fairly accurate.

** Edit
On the large filter, I don't think it is really needed for flow or oil supply.
BUT! I removed the factory oil cooler and with the 242 pan a regular filter would be a pain to reach because it would be tucked in between the pan and headers. The big filter is a lot longer and easier to get on/off.
