Angry Canton 15-242t won't clear main caps!!!!

I have a APE 355 with splayed 4-bolt main caps and I bought a Canton 15-242t oil pan. Most people on this board seem to be running that pan on built motors and I am sure someone on here has splayed 4-bolt caps. I set my pan on the engine and it hits the caps and comes about 1/4" from seating on the block. What do I have to do to get this thing to fit? DId I get the wrong pan? Please someone help me out. I know i am not the first person with this problem.

Do you know where it's hitting?

It could be hitting the scraper but most likely it's hitting on the studs or something.

What do the caps look like or what do they say on them? I've used a lot of different sets in motors and have never run into this... Eagle, Callies, Oliver, Pro Gram etc...

Ok i took a better look at it just now. The divers side of the pan will sit fine. The pan has, what i guess is the scraper, a 1" wide strip that runs the length of the crankshaft. That strip is what sits on top of the main studs and keeps the pan from seating. How can i fix this? Do i have the wrong pan?

Appears you will need to notch out the rail to clear the caps. I'd use red lead or rear gear checking compound to identify exactly what interferes where, and work from that. Piece of cake!

The #242 uses a different pan 'core' that (as I understand it) correctly clears the dispstick tube. The #241 core does not clear due to an incorrect 'V' form that straddles the dipstick tube. Canton is (and has been from day one) aware of this issue. Canton REFUSES to address/correct this clearance issue on the #241 pan. I cut out that area, and grafted an OEM 'V' section to the canton pan. Cutting off the tube is NOT the correct approach. Granted, this requires skill that is beyond most on this forum, but done correctly, it is difficult to see the modification.

I have the Canton oil pan on 2 engines not yet installed. I've heard of a lot of fitment problems so you may not be losing your mind and it might be the pan. I'm not looking forward to the day when/if I ever get these engines installed and what the pan is going to hit

Re: Canton 15-242t won't clear main caps!!!!

i cut three slots in the scraper to clear the main studs and it fits like a glove. it was a trial and error but i got it all to work out fine. Thanks for letting me know that the pan needed to be clearanced, it was an ebay purchase and would not have been fun to try to return.
