Can't close housing of Torque Arm Bushing

I installed a new polyurethane torque arm bushing and the two halves of the housing are about an 1/8" apart and the bolt is soooo tight I can hardly turn it. I am afraid I am going to strip it in the tranny. Since it is tight, can I leave it like it is or what do I need to do?

I had the same prob. when I installed mine a few years ago.

What was going on with mine was I didn't have the bushing seated properly in the housing. Trying taking it apart and making sure you've got it seated correctly.

I know its a pain but that's what worked for me.

Good luck.

I had the same problem when installing mine, I learned a trick to getting the torque arm clamp back in after having my trans out several times now. I pull the car up on ramps in the front and supported the back of the car with jackstands by the rear subframes, don't support the car by the rear axle. Then use a floor jack to support the rear axle center section with the torque arm mounted to it. When you start to jack up on the center section the torque arm will lower down into position pretty close to the trans mount point. You have to play with the floor jack a little to get it just right. This takes all the pressure off the torque arm so you're not wrestling with it while trying to attach the clamp to the front. I just about gave up on reinstalling the torque arm the first time before I tried this. It's still a little tricky but much easier if you're not wrestling with the pressure from the torque arm.

So I shouldnt drive it like it is? I just took it out for a test drive and it seams fine, the new clutch and shifter are sooo nice. I cut a little over an inch off the Pro 5.0 and it feels great. A little notchy, but not bad.
