Can you use stock rods in a 383 stroker LT1?

Or does it take special stroker rods? What about the pistons? Thanks..

I don't think it uses stock length rods. I'm not sure on the specs of it though. I'm in the learning stage yet. I remember the Gen I engine guys saying a 400 crank and rods in a .060 over 350 block will make a 383, still don't know if that is even right.

No, 60 over would be a 388, 30 over is a 383.. But Im still learning too.

you COULD use stock rods in a stroker, rods don't create the stroke, the crank does. But if you are going to build a stroker, why wouldn't you buy some decent rods?

You can use them and for the power most people make, the stock rods are fine.

As long as the counter balance of the crank will clear a 5.7" rod, you can use the stockers. Pistons will be determined by the crank and rods you use.

I used my stokers for a budget 383. Now, I am yanking them out and going manley sportsman 6 inchers. I figure I spent all this money into the motor, I would hate to have a rod get bent or something.... But, I am a little **** with my money. Its easier to spend 400 now on new rods, or have to buy a new crank, block, pistons, maybe heads... so, its all in what you want to do. You will never be sorry to upgrade now while its easy!

I know of at least one mid 10 second 383/spray b-body running stock rods and has been for years.

Mine has Oliver billet steel 5.85"...11 years old...They are a little pricey, but they are very strong/durable and create a good rod angle within the cylinder bores...I have been accused of having a way overbuilt motor...Guilty as charged...

Doing it right the first time sure beats doing it twice. From a frustration and $$ standpoint.

Those Manley's are good rods, you will be happy with them. You will need 1.25 comp height pistons and a re-balance, so it's not really $400...

GM Performance Parts sells the stock LT1/LT4 rods and their claim is that they are good in engines producing up to 450 HP. Stockers are fine unless you are gonna get silly with a power adder, IMO.

GM uses the PM rods in their 383 crate motor, along with a forged crank and Hyp. pistons.
