Can the ZZ4 cam be run in the LT1 without major issues? Will the computer be able to handle it? How is the idle?

Jeff, I've heard of some people using it in LT1's, here's some info I found in a search on it that might help:

Yes you can.. my roommate runs one in his caprice...

you need to take it to a machine shop and have the center drilled out slightly for the opti-spark, get the dowel pin set to the right height and there you go!

my roomie just took his old LT1 cam to the machine shop so they would have it for comparison on how much to drill...

Thanks. I just found a website last night that detailed the differences between all the LT1's and that's exactly what they showed. Did it make a big difference in his Caprice? Gregg, how's it going? This is the first year I've been without a driveable Camaro and it was painful. So I just bought a 68 Camaro that has an Impala SS LT1/4L60E in it. The guy has the ZZ4 cam that he was going to put in it. It doesn't look as radical as the HOT cam though.

Jeff, that sounds like a nice ride you picked up there, thats sounds like a good combo. From reading about that cam it sounds similar to the hotcam but it has more low end torque and less topend. Good luck with it and the 69 project!

FWIW, I gave up on trying to get th ZZ4 cam to work in my LT1 and just had a custom one ground that was sort of similar.

There is a potential to save a decent amount of money though with using the ZZ4 cam. You can buy new ones from ebay for ~$100.

my roomie got his for 100 bucks too, add the 30 for machining and thats it...

he put it in along with the LT1 edelbrock heads, is the car stronger? yep, how much, well he will be on the dyno this month, I'll post the numbers for the curious..

The cam is good for his car because of the weight.. he needs the extra low end...
