thanks
First ya get a priming TOOL.
Then insert TOOL
Turn with a drill until oil comes out the pushrods from the TOOL being turned.
DO NOT TURN THE CRANK DURING the TOOL turning.
Remove the priming TOOL and finish assy and install.
Put TOOL in storage and crank it up and go have fun if ya have OP.

You can rent the tool for less than 12 dollars at Autozone, and it really isn't hard to do.

Why is it bad to turn the crank during the time the tool is pumping up oil pressure? I would have thought that doing so would insure oil gets to all the surfaces of the pressure lubricated parts

The purpose of the oil pump drive is to turn the oil pump drive shaft as the cam gear spins it at a certain RPM. When you pull out the Oil pump drive gear, and use the tool to prime the pump your turning it manually, so you can get a faster spin on the oil pump drive. You can't get the same speed from just cranking it without the plugs. That's the advantage of the tool.

Ya may be turning it and wiping assy lube off before oil gets there.
When I assemble I turn it over no more than 1 rev after the pistons are in to keep from scratching up the bearings or anything else.

I spin the pump until i see oil at one (or more) pushrod/rockers, then i turn the crank, 1/2 turn

That may be OK but NOT necessary.
Once it is primed it's like cranking it after being left overnight.
