Can you hear the crickets? (chirp chirp)

So my car has been plauged with problems.

Last week I had to drop the K member to fix an oil pressure problem (new pump and baffling). Then I had an oil fountain squirting from under the car.

That led to a tranny removal because we thought the rear main took a dump. Turns out the gromets in the rear of the oil pan gasket stacked (old and new, like double stacking an oil filter seal). That fixed that.

Then I had the stock dipstick tube location blowing oil, so had to fab up a plug for that. My pan has a dipstick tube into the sump.

So while we were at it, I decided to REDO my entire exhaust. It was so fricken loud you couldnt hear yourself think. My buddy had a stock WS6 setup laying around, so on that went. Had to transfer my borla tips to it big pimpin style No big deal.

Now I had the old catback gone, and a new smaller diameter, less flowing, yet quieter one in its place. The old I pipe had a cutout in it, but that left with the sawsall.

We then fabbed up some flanges and used pieces of the old exhaust to make some makeshift custom cutouts. Put one on each header tube, and put on dual QTP e-cutouts. Ended up with AWESOME ground clearance.

Final result, NO OIL LEAKS, yet I have oil pressure up to 7k rpm. And I can hear the crickets chirp because the car is SO much quieter. With the cutouts open, wow. Not really a street friendly sound. I ran it down the highway tonight, layed into it a little (70%?) and at 60ish the entire rear came unglued and was skating around. Cant wait until its done

Still to do:
OBD2 PCM so I can rev the snot out of it. My cam isnt done "gettin it done" at 7k. I would guess it will need 7800.

Some misc front suspension stuff and alignment

Custom 4" CAI

AND THEN DYNO AND TRACK. Just thought I would share. Also many thanks to my buddy Dave who let me hog a bay at his shop for 2 days and lots of hands on help. Much appreciated.

great to hear you finally got it running. problems only make you appreciate the finished product that much more As far as the obd2 pcm so you can go past 7k, i thought both obd1 and 2 both respectively shut down at 7k? is this not true?

Re: Can you hear the crickets? (chirp chirp)

The obd1 computer shuts down (crashes and shuts off) at 7k rpm

OBD2 only has tables to 7k rpms, but it wont crash. Any RPM above 7k just uses the same timing/fueling as what it does at 7k.

And ya, the more you mod, the more that goes wrong. Just finally glad its almost done!

That's interesting about the OBDII computer...my experience is that the OBDII wouldn't run my car with my cam smoothly above 5.5k rpm...swapped a couple different OBDII's with the same result. Through a methodical process, we tried an OBDI pcm and it worked awesome.

?? Not sure what is going on there.
We have had several cars in the 7k+ range with OBD2. Last week we had a heads/cam Imp SS to 7500 on the stock bottom end, lol.

Was Jeff doing the tuning? What knock sensor were you using?

very cool man! what numbers/times are you aiming for? sounds like you are looking at mid 400whp all motor. any kind of power adder to go with that?

Re: Can you hear the crickets? (chirp chirp)

I'll be sick if it only makes mid 400's

Im hoping for very high 400s, maybe even hit 500. Mid 10s on motor. The intake is setup for a direct port, but I havent done anything with that yet. Maybe one day.
