Exclamation Car will not start, please help

Well my car died yesterday and it will not restart at all I had to tow it home...

When I was driving I noticed that the temp was higher than normal just before it quit out on me. The car started to cut out then eventually died, I was able to restart it but it would have a lugging and stumbling idle and would everntually die.

It turns over just fine but it does not fire what-so-ever now... At first I thought it was the coil, then possibly the fuel pump... Came up with the following results.

Things I have tried so far are:
1. Fuel pump pressure reads 45 then quickly fades to ~39 or 40ish
2. Coil has spark on the coil and opti sides of the coil wire
3. Fuel pump relay checked out ok with the proper voltages

I can hear the fuel pump prime but when the pressure fades about 5psi shortly after turning the key makes me wonder if this is normal?

I am not sure where to go from here... Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Check a few plugs (some from each side for spark) replace them if they look worn. If that checks out but still won't start, try squirting fuel directly in the TB while cranking the engine. If it starts then, you have a fuel system problem.

It could very well be the opti. I had similar symtoms and even spark when mine failed. Also scan it to see if it stored any codes.

Re: Car will not start, please help

Well after giving up and towing it to a mechanic that I know he tested for spark at the plugs, where he found none... He thought that it was the ICM and replaced it but that did not solve the problem.

What would be the next place to look? He was going to check out the cap/rotor inside the opti...

Thanks in advance.

http://mainstreamtopics.com/forum/in...p?showtopic=78 can be passed on to the mech unless you wanna give it a try yourself. but honestly a good mechanic should be able to test the components and figure out whats wrong without guessing. thats not always true tho.. but it might be of some help

Thanks for the link HBHRacing. I actually used that to test my fuel pressure and pump relay.

Atm I am just waiting for hear back from him to see what he has come up with.
