agreed. if you'd keep your engine bay clean, you wouldn't need to f*in powerscrub it. i know my uncle couldn't get some paint off his engine cover, so he went to menard's and bought the 3500psi powerwasher (also for the house washing) and just blasted the pissout of his engine bay. some people...

Agreed. I let my other half take my Z out ONCE......she went through an automatic car wash. I had one dead Opti.....and one less half.....

So, not only is powerwashing your engine stupid, throw in that you can't go through an automatic car wash.....

i have taken my car through countless autowashes and usually hose off the engine bay 4-5 times a year. i have done this for 7-8 years and i still have the stock opti with zero problems

Iv washed my engine bay a number of times but i only use low pressure...basically a garden hose and avoided spraying any water directly at the opti and haven't had any problems.

Most of the people that have agreed to this have a '94 model opti (unvented). Make sure that is part of the sticky if one does appear.

And now you know why we don't have a "sticky"..... for everyone who feels its stupid to power wash the engine, we have someone who claims to do it all the time with no problems. Then there's the pro-Opti guys who will tell you you are "ignorant" if you even suggest the Opti is not the greatest thing since sliced bread. Its up to the individual to read/search, and make up their own minds.

and if I did get the urge to wash my engine bay, what besides the opti should I be concerned with on these cars?

I would think if I protected the opti from getting wet I would be ok?

Re: Can we get a sticky about washing the engine bay?

You have about a dozen fairly delicate electronic sensors, each with an electrical harness connector. A PCM with 4 large multi-pin connectors and a knock module port with a cover. Parts that don't need water in them - like the shaft bearings in the throttle body. Wire terminals that can corrode, like the plug wires and the coil wire. Engine and chassis grounds that work better without a layer of rust between the strap and the chassis or block. The intake manifold and fuel rails look a lot better without a bunch of water stains on them. The list goes on and on.......

Yet people claim to "pressure wash" the entire engine, at least once a week or once a month... Im curious as to how high they set the pressure on the washer????

Its possible to keep the engine very clean without water.
