Can Transgo shift be installed with trans in the car?

Or should I wait and do it when the trans is out this winter?

They can be installed inside the car. The only thing you can't do is install the "Hi-Rev" springs if they are included in the kit. The tranny must be out for that.

Well I was looking into a shift kit also and the Trans Go kit does say that it can be installed with the tranny in the car. But if you have any specific questions or need any more feed back than what you have gotten so far talk to 12SCNDZ. He is on the board here. I just replaced my tranny and needed some help. This guy KNOWS his stuff. Definatley talk to him.

If he can't give you an answer then talk to ProBuilt Automatics. He is also on the board and knows his stuff. Both of the guys above helped me a TON.

12SCNDZ specifically told me that the Transgo Shift kit is junk. I have one in my car and my tranny is shot i think. He said the kit is notorious for toastin the 3-4 clutch or somethin like that. Definitely PM him and ask him. He definitely does know his **** though.

You know, I don't think there is a kit out there that someone doesn't call junk. When I was shopping for a kit I was told B&M was junk and to buy Transgo. Now I hear Transgo is junk. IS THERE A KIT OT THERE THAT IS NOT JUNK?

I've heard nothing but good things about the TransGo shift kits. The above post is the first bad thing that I've heard. I don't see how it can toast clutches, since it reduces slippage?

The Trans-Go valve body kit did not fry the 3-4 clutches, they probably were on their way out to start with. If you want to improve the Trans-Go valve body kit, make sure you have the Corvette servo to go along with this, and drill the 2nd gear feed hole to .086 with the stock diameter torque converter or .096 with a 10" or 9.5" TC, drill the 3rd gear feed hole to .125 - .155 for the stock 12" TC & .155 - 187 with the 10" or 9.5" TC, and .120 - .155 for 4th gear respectively. I have found this works very well for this unit. Trans-Go used these hole sizes in the past with much success, but for some reason changed it. I went with the "new" hole sizes and found very little (if any) improvement, so I went back to what works. If you want a "smooth" part throttle 1-2 shift when using the Corvette servo, then "do not" add any washers to the accumulator, and "only" one with a 10" or smaller diameter torque converter. The vehicle should get 2nd gear rubber (at WOT)from "horsepower" and "not" from "blocking" or highly restricting the 2nd gear accumulator. If you can wait till winter, and do this right, you will be able to do an inspection of everything that is wrong and you will be able to replace it at that time. Let me know if I can be of help?
