Can too much oil hurt an LT-1?

I have always been told don't over fill the engine with oil. Well, I got the car back from the dealer who put 5 3/4 quarts in when it is supposed to have 4.5. Now, they did change the oil pan so I am sure it was completely empty, but 5 3/4 sounds like too much.
Can this hurt the engine?

it depends. If it gets high enough it will foam, and stop lubricating. but it has to be pretty overfilled.

I would drain some out.. it's easy enough... then check the level.

I know with older small blocks you ran the risk of a blown rear main seal with too much oil in the pan, did that once...oops. Not sure if the LT1 is prone to this as well.

4.5qts is way too low actually. Mine takes 5.5 qts with the long filter in order to show full on the dipstick. I think 5.75 qts is probably safe, but to be sure, check the dipstick immediately after driving the car. If you don't see any evidence of bubbling, you're fine.

I use anywher from 5- 5.5 quarts in mine with the K&N filter. But 4.5 is definately not enough should at least have 5. Run it for a while then let it set for 15 minutes or so then check the dipstick. In my opinion 5.75 is a tad too much, but not enough to do any damage.

Well at one time I had over 10 in mine. Oil filter got stuck and took some hours worth of work to get off. Well i left for a business trip so my dad was finishing working on it and thought I had already drained the oil but i didnt. Thnak god he only drove it like 10 miles.

I put 5 quarts in mine, and it fills it up to the second to the top hole of the dipstick, so your 94Z would prolly be the same. I run a regular Fram oil filter in mine.
