Typing this for a friend whos not online so bear with me if it sounds screwy because I am passing it along trying to help my bud out.
His car is a 93 or 94Z with 120,000 on it. It doesnt get rodded much so take this for what its worth.
About a month ago whenever he was driving at 55 and kicked it down hard it would rev and spin like the trans was slipping but eventually go fine.
I told him it might be low on fluid.
Well he called last night and he pulled the car in the garage with no problems but when he went to get in it this morning it would not go into reverse.
I went and looked at it and its very weird.
When you put the car in reverse it just sits there. When you put it into Nuetral and try and rev it it should rev as if it was in park but it won't rev all the way up and it sounds like when you have the car in drive and hold the brake and rev the motor. Very weird.
The car did have a problem a few weeks ago with the trans mount because evertime he got on the car hard you would hear that ever familiar THUMP under the car which is somthing I know well as being those weak trans mounts.
What would you guys recommend here on this one is is a new tranny in the future?

Yea its sounds like its the tranny to me. With that many miles on a automatic its like normal maintence and should be done anyways.

 

Time for a rebuild

 

OK guys we have decided to go ahead and put a trans in my buddys car. but I need some pointers. First we have to find a trans. " I just sold mine along with the engine to Mike so my buddy was a day late so to speak. I think we are going to try and do this ourselves so how bad can it be? If anyone has any suggestions or tips to make this job easier please post them here and if anyone has a line on a good priced trans please PM or email me the info. I think it is a 93 maybe 94 with the automatic trans and OD.
