Can someone PLEASE help me with this sputter.....???????

Last night when i started my car it had this sputter to it. It will sit and idle "roughly" but when I rev it or accelerate it fells like it has this horrible sputter to it. It is responsive when hammering the gas but it feels like water in the gas? The car has 146,000 on it and i havent changed the plugs for a long time. At least 30,000 miles. Also I have been noticing this fuel smell as it seems when you turn the car off or stand by it etc.. you can small gas and it has never done that before. I looked under the car and it is not leaking so what gives with the smell???????? If you guys think it is the plugs or wires is there any tips you can give me on how to change them with a little ease????????????

thanks guys.,

Probably a plug wire, but plugs and wires are not a bad idea. Do a search for info on how to approach it. Many, many opinions, but it usually just boils down to what works best for you. Allow plenty of time and have patience (you will need them both).

The gas smell could be part of the evap system leaking pressure, although if the car has a nasty sputter, i would be more inclined to go with shoebox on the fact that one or more of the cylanders is not firing properly and raw fuel is soming out the exhaust./
