Can rod bolts be torqued more than once?

I've done a search and the consensus is you replace rod bolts when rebuilding. My question is if you have new factory bolts and you torque them to the proper angle per factory specs, can you then loosten them and retorque safely or are they strictly a one torque bolt that must then be replaced?

I done it on my 355 and it ran good for 40,XXX miles. The boy I sold it to has put probably around 10XXX on it his self and is still running good.
