Can a OEM opti hold 6600 RPM's?

just like stated, my 383 is just about finished and im swaping all the parts over. my question is will the GM opti hold to 6600-6800 RPM's which will be my redline. I just bought a new GM opti last year and would like to save the $500 on buying the MSD

you bet

I just cleaned up the opti I had 236,000 miles on when we rebuilt my engine and ran the dyno up to about 6950-7000 with no observable ignition trouble. Cam peaked around 6840 and fell off very gently after.

I will always strongly suggest DO NOT change just the cap and rotor. If it isn't broke don't fix it, if it is broke fix it all.

2nd that

Well I'm obviously in the "if it ain't broke" camp. I also would not replace the cap or rotor without a good reason. I've seen at least some early MSD product that had poor tolerances.

yeah i guess you guys are right, its just a little dirty and oily (from power steering leak) so i'll just clean it up. I'll get some MSD wires and coil to spark up the other ignition stuff
