can I use a OBDII auto PCM in a manual car for test?

I want to swap the PCM in my car to see if thats causing knock retard problems.

I have a manual 96 Z with ODBII. My friend has a spare OBDII pcm from a 96 trans am auto, it's stock programming. Can i throw this PCM in my car and will it allow me to drive the car around to just see if it cures my knock retard problem??

Thanks
Brian

I am not for sure, i know you will throw a TON of codes cause the PCM wont be able to find the auto..

As it has already been mentioned, you will get a service engine light from a bunch of transmission related codes and you will be possibly locked out of a few gears, but you can try it. You won't hurt anything.
