can I test a cat (cloged or not) off the car-found one in garage

I found one and was wondering if there is any way to test it, like run compressed air through it. I believe the answer will be no, but want to double check. I am installing some on my longtubes, and if I can use this old one then I can save some money, but I have no idea where it came from or if its bad. I don't care about passing emissions, just visuals, but I want it to flow well too. Should I just buy a new one, I found a good priced soundcat 3 inch for 50 bucks new+ shipping

Well I was just looking at it, and one side of the honeycomb is dark from exhaust and the other side is white, not sure if this means anything.

A good cat you should be able to look through and see light from the otherside, the light will be dim but should be able to see through the honeycomb.

If that is the case, just gut the cat and you are set.
