Can I/Should I reuse the lifters from my old motor?
Can I/Should I reuse the lifters from my old motor?
My 355 is on the way and I was just curious as to what you all would do.
Backstory: Cam is somehow rounded out, metal shavings in the oil, valve slapped a piston, two of the lifters trashed.
Obviously I'm replacing the two bad lifters. The other 14 lifters have a whopping 60 miles on them and look fine. They are COMP oem replacements I bought for my LE2 setup.
Should I just disassemble them all, clean them out, and carry on my merry way? Or should I just clean them out as best I can w/o disassembly (not sure if its necessary).

Re: Can I/Should I reuse the lifters from my old motor?
let me tell ya, theres no way to clean them properly without taking them apart, Especially if its had metal shavings in the oil. i took mine apart after i tried cleaning them. all the old oil was still in there. i wouldnt chance it and would clean them up and if they look fine i would probably put them back in.
Re: Can I/Should I reuse the lifters from my old motor?
Are there any instructions out there for disassembling them or is it pretty obvious.
Don't you just have to push down on the lifter and remove the retaining clip?

Re: Can I/Should I reuse the lifters from my old motor?
I didnt mess around and I got Morels, my cam is equvilent to a LE1 cam, possibly a LE2, soooo I didnt want to chance it. I had 25k on oem replacements, no issues, just didnt trust them with the aggressive cam specs
Re: Can I/Should I reuse the lifters from my old motor?
I would, but I also need a $1700 tranny and a converter upgrade. I also *just* bought the LE2 setup and spent an assload on supporting components for those.
I'd rather save the $400 on Morels at this point. I will probably get Morels later on tho, it only takes about two hours for me to get the intake off and back on.
Plenty of people seem to be ok spinning just under 7k with high lift on stock style lifters...

Re: Can I/Should I reuse the lifters from my old motor?
I know I personally only had about 150 miles on my Crane linked lifters before my bearing went and I'm more than willing to give them a cleaning instead of throwing away about $250.
I have a parts cleaner and time to take them apart and clean them up.
So no worries here.

Re: Can I/Should I reuse the lifters from my old motor?
I dont see a problem with reuseing them. I cleaned my old ones that came out of a motor that had 2 spun bearings. totally disassembled them and cleaned them with an oil cutting solvent.
