Can I put a TH400 tranny in my Z?

I just blew out my tranny and I would like to use a TH400. Is it possible, too hard, or expensive, or what. I have a 4L60E in a 95 Z.

It's definately possible. I believe you have to change the converter, crossmember, and rewire the neutral safety switch. Not an afternoon project. I believe LJ's site has some info on it: http://para.noid.org/~lj/

Yes. Click on the mod's list in the signature. Big downside is the lack of an overdrive. Gear Vendor solves that very well, but it doubles the cost of the install. Main cost is the tranny, install hours aren't that bad. A lot of nitpicking stuff like finding a dipstick that isn't buried under the cowl, getting the right reluctor and VSS, a shifter that fits in the console, getting rid of the PCM tranny codes, etc. All been done, and the TH400 will handle anything an LT1 could possibly throw at it... and I'm basing that on an 1,100+HP application in a 3,900# convertible (not mine, unfortunately).

I saw an 825HP 4th Gen toast 2 Art Carr "1,000HP" 700R4's (= 4L60) in a matter of minutes. The same car with an Art Carr TH400 and another 300HP went 9.04@155mph. The TH400 can be built to be virtually indestructible. Most people will go with a manual valve body, necessitating manually "shifting" gears - maybe not convenient on the street - but for someone who never drove a performance car with anything but a manual tranny, "shifting" the TH400 is actually more fun than letting it shift itself. The downside is that in most cases there is no compression braking when you let off the throttle.... its just like it is in neutral. But I think there is at least one manual valve body out there that will provide some compression braking... not sure.
