Can I Get Into the 12's....?

I have the stock 3.23 gears on my '97 Z28 A4. With some good LT headers, a FIP Kit from K&N or the like, and a strong true dual exhaust set-up, can I expext to get in to the 12's? At this point, how much RWHP would I be looking at? If I can't get into the 12's with only the above mods, then are there any other easy bolt-ons that would get me there?

maybe with a real good stall conv. and good tires. if that doesnt do it, maybe 1.7 rr's and a tune. dont forget all the free mods.

Put on a set of drag radials and you'll be really close. If you are just knocking on the door of 12s, gears will get you there. Basically all I have is LTs, true duals, drag radials, Moroso CAI, and 4.10s. I have LCAs and relocation brackets too, but totally stock motor and stock shocks/springs. And I'm running 12s at 108. This is in an M6 car, BTW.

Patriot, how much did your dual exhaust system cost? does it interfere with anything underneath the car? i'm thinking of either doing duals, or a random technology cat-back with cutouts after the longtubes.

I think you'll need more than that, but you'll never know for sure until you try it.

The fabrication was about $500, that includes the x-pipe, but not the mufflers or tips. I bought those seperately. I bought the headers seperately too, and installed those myself.

And as for getting a lightly modded LT1 into the 12s, all I know is I did it. Not sure if it would be as easy to get an auto there or not. I've never driven an auto LT1 car. A lot of people may call BS on my mods, but all I've got to say to that is come to Milan (michigan) and see me run

Re: Can I Get Into the 12's....?

you've got a slight gear advantage over me, but I hope to be hitting 12's when I get the trans and new converter installed, I am runing off the stock mainfolds, and have done a few mods like; airfoil, TB-bypass, 160* t-stat, Tune-up since I ran the 13.3. If the trans and converter don't get me there, then I have 1.6 RR's I haven't installed yet, and then tires and I'll be there.

U are gonna need either gears or a nice stall to reach 12's with what you have... that 1800 stock stall in the A4's is terrible... 2800 at least will get you really close, if not in it.
I have midlength headers, 2800 stall, 2.73's (stock, but not for long), hot cam, CAI, LCA's, GMAF, and nittos, and i am knockin on the door...

with a 2.73... not really. Any better gearing than a 2.73 would put me about 12.6-12.8 range

Go with 3.73's, 2800 stall converter, CAI and headers should get you there.

Well, maybe your car is a freak or something... not really sure, your gears might be the 3.23's too, that would make a difference over my 2.73's as well

Re: Can I Get Into the 12's....?

No one can tell you what you will run because it all depends on the driver, the weather, location, elevation, and a million other things. Some guys on here run 12's with the same mods as me, but I pulled a 1.7 60 foot time with a 13.3 at 101, I'm happy with that since I haven't touched the motor, but if I went to the same tracks as the guys running 12's then I might run 12's??? never know. I think I'm as fast as I'm going to go with out touching the motor for my tracks around here. Of course most of the guys running 12's are in hard top cars and my convertible weighs about 300 or so more than a hard top so if every 100 lbs. is a .10 of a second then I could be 12's in a hard top? maybe.
