Can I fix my temp gauge or need a whole cluster?

I accidentaly broke the ground to the temp gauge. I repaired it but the gauge is still stuck to the right. A friend thinks the magnetic coil is ruined. The only way to replace it is a new gauge cluster. Has this happened to anyone else? Can I fix it or should I find a new gauge cluster? Thank you for the help.

I don't know if you can fix it or not but I know that ebay has a lot of gauge clusters pulled out of cars up for sale. Or you could always install another gauge seperate from the cluster and mount it somewhere(pillar, tape holder near cigarette lighter, or even in an AC vent[if you have a bird])...sorry I couldn't be any more helpful.

what car do you have? Check the temp sensor on the head although that ussually causes it to read zero.

I have a 93 Z28. I don't think it is the sensor. It reads full hot even when the car is stone cold. It will not return to the left and show cold. It is either not getting grounded or the magnetic coil is no good anymore.

Explain what you mean by this statement.

If you damaged the wire to the sensor, perhaps it is still damaged somewhere or grounded out.

There is a metal loop on the end of the ground wire. A bolt goes through the loop and grounds the wire on the inner fender. That is what I broke off and repaired. The guage should be grounded now.
