Can a GM847 cam work with an a4?

I am wanting to replace my Hotcam kit with a bigger cam and stronger valvetrain parts. Right now my car consists of ported heads, Electric H2O pump, Full exhaust (hooker lts, offroad ypipe, dual/dual), fully built tranny (hold 550 rwhp/rwtq) and a 2500 stall convertor.

So can I pull out the LT4 hotcam and run that cam on this setup without problems? This is a OBD1 1994 LT1 motor.

Thanks

I would want a bigger stall with that cam, probably 3000-3200. It will work with yours, but be more fun with a bigger one.

yeah, i was already planning on stepping up to a Vig 3200 and 3.73 rear.

So, do you think this cam will pick up a lot of Hp/Tq over the LT4 hotcam?

Yes, the cam is bigger in every aspect. Atljar made 35X rwhp with it on stock heads, so i could see 38X in it with good heads and a good tune.

So if I was making 360rwhp with the Hotcam in the current setup, you think it should go up to about 38X with teh 847 cam?

Some lightly ported LT1 heads. The guy who did the cam install pulled them. He cleaned them and did a slight port/polish job on them. I plan on sending them off around the beginning of June to Lloyd Elliott ot let him hog them out.

You might have driveability issues with that cam. My buddy's car that ran a CC306, which is a slightly "smaller" cam, and a 2800 stall with ported stock heads wasn't too much fun to drive on the street as the engine would stall sometimes at a stop and that was with a mail order tune. Why would you that big on duration, anyways? I would look into a cam with a bit more moderate duration if you drive your car everyday. Good luck.

okay, I see what you are saying. I have a local guy to tune/dynotune it, so I figured he could get the driveability issues taken care of. if you don't think this would be a good cam, what do your recommend for a big A4 cam?

Fwiw you'll need a minimum of a 3500 stall with that cam, probably more like a 3800-4000 if you want to see it's full potential.

I'm using the cam in a 383 with a 3000 stall and 3.73s and a mail tune. It runs fine and never stalls.
