well i replaced my MAF after i got a code 48 and just did my plugs and wires last week, just last night my car took a crap, im all out of ideas, it just backfires, i cant give it gas or it just seems to die, and backfire like crazy. it was working perfect then all of a sudden just went to hell, starts up fine, idle is weird, and power surges, i checked all plugs and wires, all fine, is this OPTI related, i really need to get this fixed soon

The opti can cause a backfire,I had a 97 SS that hesitated and backfired,changed the opti and it cured it! Good Luck!

 

If the car is not flashing the SES light its hard to diagnose this.
I had a low rpm stumbling problem that came and went and then all of a sudden turned into a backfireing under acceleration problem and thats bad.
My problem was the opti, it had 135k on it and the cap and rotor were pretty bad, (thats an understatement) the optical portion seemed fine cause it was not throwing a code.
I put all new stuff in since I tore it down that far and it helped 110%.
I mean the car runs extremely better now.

 

do you think my injectors could be bad? i would rather start small

 

Check your fuel filter and fuel pressure,it probably is not your injectors.Do you know someone who could scan it for you?Hope this helps !Jake/S>A>TEXAS.
