Can arching plugs/wires cause knock?
Re: Can arching plugs/wires cause knock?
Knock is caused by pre-detonation of the fuel; in other words the fuel ignites before the spark plug fires. This causes multiple flame fronts in the combustion chamber that collide and generate supersonic shock waves (knock). I'm having a hard time understanding how bad wires/plugs would cause knock but you obviously need to replace your wires and plugs!

yes they can IF its cross firing (not likey/impossible on an LS1) because on the older motors #5 and #7 fire right next to each other. sends the spark to the wrong cylinder and bang knock
I worked on a ford van this happened to and it destroyed #8 piston (#7 and #8 on fords fire next to each other)

Well i had noticed a slight "glow" from the # 1 and #3 plugs along with the # 5 wire arching to the block. I have been recently getting knock on my scanmaster and was just wondering if they were related.

Wouldnt hurt to change the plugs and wires just in case. Check and make sure that all of your header bolts and collector bolts are tight, You might be getting flase knock. What you can also do is run some 100 octain and see if it goes away. If it doesn not then you know its false knockl. But if it does.............

I ran 100 octane in my car and the knock mostly went away while driving, but it was still there during idle and start-up. I changed my wires this morning and all the knock went away! problem solved.
