Camshaft for street race and drag ?
Camshaft for street race and drag ?
Which camshaft would you recommend for street and dragrace (but nothing extreme, sometimes I must drive it to the supermarket)

Camaro Z28 93, Powerdyne supercharger, Edelbrock nitro .....

I would recommend doing a search on this board concerning cam selection. There has to be at least a couple of thousand posts on this subject. The queston you ask is too broad and you didn't give enough information for anyone to be able to have any kind of recommendation. Alot more would have to be known about your motor, performance goals etc.
Good Luck!

Thank you for your so called replies. I thought that you would be so kind and help me with answering my questions about Camaro, but instead of reliable answers, I got tutorial for searching through this discussion board. As I wrote in my previous posts, Camaro is here in the Czech Republic absolutely exotic car, you were my first and last hope. Instead of searching through the whole discussion board and asking still my friend, who can speak English (I canīt), it seemed to me easier to ask him to write a post about the camshafts and I hoped you will help me. But the only thing I got is disappointment.
especially for rskraus: I thought, that a person titled DRIVETRAIN TECH MODERATOR can write something more sensible that poor 5 letters. At first I was impressed, that here should be lots of peole, who understand given topic, but as I can see, for many of you, it is easier to write post about nothing.

It really depends what your looking for. There are so many different things. There are also going to be more things you will most like want to look into like rockers and stuff. I'm assuming your car is supercharged, if so you are going to want a cam specfically designed for that. Sorry people tend to come off like that, but I would also urge you to do a little searching. Not everything can be covered in one thread. There is a wealth of information there waiting for you to find it!

MarauderZ28...
What are you looking for when selecting a cam? Do you want something a little more than what you have stock? If so then the HOTCAM might suit you well.
How high do you want to rev your camaro to make the most power? If you like to race in the upper RPM powerband like I do, then you might want to consider the CC306. This is an AWESOME cam for the street!
Or are you looking for something totally insane that you'll wet your pants ever time you release the clutch? You might want to look into a solid roller set up.
Also what you have to take into effect is the drivabiltiy of your cam. Everyone has different opinions when it comes to this. For me, I'm use to racing with a solid lift cam: 260/260 .629 inch lift on both sides. And I think its fine driving on the road (not in traffic but back roads).
So gives us some feedback on what YOU want out of your car, driving condtions, milegae on car and I'm sure someone will help you out along with me.
EDIT: Also, try to be a little more specific in your sig. K&N could mean that you have a filter or the cold air induction; SLP...dear god, they make everything, what on your car has SLP (exhaust?); assuming you have a bigger throttle body, and also how much are you boosting since you have a supercharger?

So, at the moment is more or less stock engine, but I have prepared Powerdyne Supercharger and Edelbrock Nitrous. I think, I will have to port the heads and buy a bigger throttle body (58mm).
I do not know what is better, whether higher RPM or lower RPM. I would like to use the car mainly as drag racer, so I let it up to your decision.

I would seriously save up your cash then. If your going to run nitrous AND boost...your gonna want to rebuild the entire motor to handle enough boost. Go to www.cmotorsports.com and check out some of the cam shafts for supercharging applications. You rear is going to be nothing also if you dont upgrade.
Like most have said its very difficult to spec a cam because there are tons of variables...You are going to get so many opinions that your head will spin...plan your build carefully...Its all about the combination. Set a goal for the usage of your car and go from there. I strongly recommend calling Lingenfelter Performance Engineering 260-724-2552 www.Lingenfelter.com although their owner/founder recently passed away they still build tremendous engine combinations...They are meticulous and somewhat conservative on their recommendations, but they are after power and longevity...The person to ask for there is Ed. Even if you don't use their stuff bending their ears will help your project a lot...My Lingenfelter built 383 has nine years on the build without so much as a valve cover leak and runs 11.70s, and I drive it to work all of the time...Good luck...

I checked back on this thread to see if you had posted some more specific info in order for me to try to help. You have an unusual way of asking for help, but I still wish you luck.

What I was getting at with LPE is that they build outstanding dyno proven packages that hold up to abuse...No they ain't cheap, but I have never had a motor that you could race hard and daily drive for NINE years with only maintenance being oil, filters, plugs, and wires...Like I said to Marauder, they'll be tons of suggestions with tons of price ranges...LPE is just a place to start for good advice...and when you break down the $$$s that number included a Carl Rossler built 4L60E, a Pro Auburn, a gear swap, and a day on the chassis dyno....
