Camshaft Recommendation

Well, driving along this past Friday and my Scanmaster started bouncing retard readings all over the place on me Haven't popped a valve cover yet, but it my noise comes and goes, and I am suspecting a collapsed lifter. Soooo, depending on what I find, I'm debating a new cam, (nothing too aggressive, just a little extra) lifters, valve springs and timing set. Given my mods, does anyone have any advice? Looking for, Best bang for the buck, Most complete, matched kit, so I don't need to guess Thanks in advance

The comp 503 cam works great with stock heads. Most guys run comp 918 beehives when they run that cam.

Thank Joelster, can stock lifters be run with this cam? Also I'll be upgrading to stock ratio crane race gold 3/8 sa rockers that I have sitting around if this makes any difference

Yes you can use the stock lifters. Pull them out and take a look at them though.

Oh no doubt. I think I have a collapsed one, hence the whole shenanigans. I'll probably go new if I do the swap, just wanted to make sure stock would work with that cam

Steer clear of the comp R's. I just had one collapse and it kicked the rocker sideways onto the valve. Im lucky it didn't "unlock" the valve and drop it.

Yikes Dennis. I was actually considering those too. Thanks for the input!

These are a popular choice to keep costs down:

Cadillac CTS-VR Racing Hydraulic Roller V Lifters LS1 LS2 LS3 LS6 LS7 - Lingenfelter Performance

You can search and find them cheaper. Lots of guys run crazy cams with them without failure.

Yeah this all happened yesterday. These lifters don't have over 3500 miles on them either

Sorry to hear, warranty is nice, but doesn't help the fact that it has to come out of the motor first. Aggravated wouldn't strong enough word to describe my demeanor.

I highly recommend the old gm847 once again. I ran it a few years ago in my TA. It put own 381rwhp untuned (mail order tune only), and got me 31mpg driving from NC to FL with a 6speed and 4.10 gears. Got around 13mpg with me driving around town, and I drive the crap out of it!

Re: Camshaft Recommendation

There are lots of cam threads from over the years, they can provide a large amount of info.

Best thing to do is sit down and make an honest assessment of what you use the car for, what you goals are, and what you are willing to sacrifice. Camshaft selection is all about compromise.
