Camshaft Question
Camshaft Question
I was planning on doing a camshaft upgrade on my 96 z28 and a speed shop near my house will make a custom one and install it and retune my ecu for about 1800. I was wondering if it would make a big difference and if its worth the money. Currently all i have is 4.10 gear an intake, exhaust, 58mm throttle body, and an upgraded suspension. Should i buy something else for 2 grand or should i get the cam now?
If an auto you NEED a stall.
As covered headers are an absolute must as well.
I would recommend roller rockers to compliment, some guys have gotten away with stock rockers on cammed setups but too may things can go wrong there.
Pushrods in whatever length is necessary.
Realistically you should expect to pay $250+ for a cam, $100+ for springs, $250 for roller rockers, $100 for good pushrods, might as well put in 7/16" studs with said roller rockers so another $20-30 there and might as well go non-SA with guideplates so another $20-50, $60+ in gaskets, should consider a new relief spring in the oilpump meaning the oilpan has to come all the way off more labor $$$$, $50+ in fluids.
Without adding it all up this has to be near $900 in parts alone without replacing "might as well" stuff like plug wires, plugs, cap and rotor, and waterpump.
I would talk to them about all the parts included in that $1800 price because frankly it seems low to me and I wonder if corners are being cut.
I did the "budget" cam swap before the car was setup to support it and gained little from the cam because of it.
