Camshaft Innovations - has anyone used them?

I'm been reconsidering and am now thinking of going with a custom grind instead of the GM847. I've been looking around alot and originally I wanted to go with Joe Overton, but unfortunatly it appears he isn't doing custom cams anymore. So I checked out camshaftinnovations.com.

I emailed jay and he seemed pretty knowledgable, and I've read alot of good stuff, but no actual reviews of his cams in an LT1.. Does anyone here actually use his camshafts or have direct experience with him?

Thanks

The good part about using a shelf cam is someone somewhere has one so you can get all the parts easily, cheap and you can get it tuned easily or find a good PCM file on here. But once you go custom grind, you need more expensive parts, more expensive cam but more HP. I have used Cam Motion before and was satisfied but now have a cam form Brett Bauer thats not quite running yet but won't be long. .

very true, but i wouldn't mind paying the $400 +/- for a custom if I got 3 or 4 more MPH out of it with the same driveability as the GM847

Have you considered asking Lloyd (your head guy) for a cam designed for your needs/wants? +4 mph is quite a bit more hp, BTW.

3 to 4 more MPH is not going to happen if the 847 is in the ballpark with what your combination needs, with all other things working fine.

I like the idea of the late model cams---the ones that are quick on the opening and gentle on the closing----rather than the geometric, the ones with different ramps.JMHO

Lloyd won't sell one to you, but Bret Bauer might. If it's really worth it to you.

Well at this stage in the game I'd like to get something that's going to trap at least low 120s. I've seen traps of 120 with the 847 so I'm thinking this is attainable.. hell I'll sacrifice a bit of streetability to get to my goal..

Thanks for the comments on Jay, I'm pretty sure I'll be going with him. I have yet to find a negative review of his product.

A 427 chevelle, low 7s? Saw a 67 Chevelle Sunday with 700hp 540. Owner said he predicted it would do 9s. That 427 must have been blown and juiced to do 7s. JMHO

Pretty pathetic, a guy I know of with a full body, full interior 95Z with an auto and small cam runs 8.20's all day and super low 7's on an 80hit.
