Cams and stock motors

Im getting very interested in cams.
My buddy does very well with tuning and makign custom cams. He says he can make a cam that wll perform very well with stock heads, stock everything(besides what mods i have in my sig). Im not looking for amazing power since i have a project i will be getting into. Just somthing with a little more oompf and sound. One reason i may go with the custom cam is to just test it out and c how it performs well over off the shelf cams. Hes pretty good at what he does.

Im not sure if the specs yet but my question is what kind of off the shelf cams will work well with stockish settup?

What kind of power are u guys hitting with a cam on a stockish motor and what times are u running?
Im jut looking at mild cams nothing big

thanks guys
bobbyd

EDIT: i will be going with 1.6rrs as well
