93 - Speed density, OBD I, 275HP rating
94 - MAF, OBD I, 275HP rating
95 - MAF, OBD I, 275HP rating
96 - MAF, OBD II, 285HP rating
97 - MAF, OBD II, 285HP rating

There are minor interior differences... but I think that's the basics. Someone else will proly describe in greater depth.

MAF= Mass Air Flow sensor it a sensor which measures how much air is making it's way into the engine.

OBD=On Board Diagnostic(I believe) it's your pcm or computer of the car. Tells ya if somethings wrong with the engine and it's systems and acts as a safe guard to try and prevent any major damage to the engine i.e. engine knock and over revving.

I thought 94's were the ones with hardened pushed rods. As my sig. would show i hope this is the case.

Not only was 1995 the last year for OBD-I it had the newer ODB-II connector.

I believe 93-95s got the hardened pushrods, got discontinued for 96s & 97s because gm didn't feel they were really neccessary...

96 and 97 cars have dual cats, 97 cars have the ls1 style interior and dash. 93 has yellow gauges, while 94-96 have white backlighting. 97 had monsoon, whereas others have bose.
Thats about all i can think of right now. -Michael

The only thing about the OBD-II connector is that it means a special cable just for the 1995 cars, and 1996 and 1997 cars that have been converted to OBD-I.

It doesn't DO anything, just determines how you connect to the car to get diagnostic information from it.

just to shed a little light, i think some to most people agree that 95 is probably one of the best years
easier working on it with obd1 or whatever
first year for vented opti
last year for hardened pushrods

course, 97 is a good year also if you like the new tailights, new interior, and old headlights/front end all in one package
