Lightbulb Camaro 1995 Z28 Problems or Deal?

Hey guys I am a Newbie here and I just purchased a 1995 Z28.. Man this car is way faster then any of my boys Mustangs but right now I got it in the shop. I bought it on Friday with 109K miles for 2500. I knew when I bought it, it was a fixer upper but it has a clean title so I didn’t think it was going to be too bad? My friend owns a auto shop an advised me to buy it anyway.. I am not mechanically inclined at all!! So right now it’s in the shop, but I am wondering did I get a good deal..
It passed smog Friday but the “service engine soon light” comes on after about 5 miles of driving and it has a small hiccup right before the light comes on?

Here are all the problems
First of all the windows want roll down. It goes down little by little, and goes up even slower than it rolls down.
Second the AC doesn’t blow cold air. It has Freon, but no cold air is being pushed out. When I turn on the fans, they blow air depending on the temperature outside.
Third the brakes work fine as long as I don’t want to decelerate from 80 to 40 right away, when I do, the front in shakes like hell and the brakes feel stiff.. It feels like the ABS brakes are catching and letting loose, but the whole front end is shaking.. Even with all the problems my boys told me to buy it since it was only going for 2500.
I also plan to get a paint job, the paint job isn’t bad but it does look like it has been sitting outside for a while. The inside is super clean, so I want the outside to look clean too.

Does anyone know if the 95 Z28 are known to have the problems mentioned above and do you know of any possible solutions?

And did I get a good deal for the Z28 even with all the problems? 1995 Z28 for $2500 with 109K miles

good deal for sure, you have plenty of money on what it should have cost you to put back in to the engine

Thanks man, I feel a little better knowing that I got a deal. The car is in the shop for maybe a week getting the AC, Windows, and Brakes up to far for 500..

Now for the next question..

Does anyone know if the 95 Z28 are known to have the problems mentioned above and do you know of any possible solutions?

Id say the brakes are normal wear ... The window motors are known to go in Camaros, and the SES should be easy enough to diagnose if your buddy can get your car on a scanner ...

When I got the smog, the mechanic said something about the Throttle position sensor, and said the parts was like 10 bucks but the labor was like 85, so I think my freind that owns the shop is going to look into it, but he said the Throttle Position Sensor is like a 15 minute job? He also said that the Camaro's has some kind of Electronic module that makes the Service engine soon light come on just so a person would have to take it back to the dealer..

Another freind told me to just unplug the battery for a day and everything should be cool, but then the mechanic told me if I did that, the radio and other miscellaneous electrical problems may occur..

It seems like there are alot of do's and don't with these camaros?

The TPS is a very simple replacement piece. Tell your mechanic that you're going to yank your car out of there if he doesn't quite yanking you around. You have thousands of people on this site who will watch your back to make sure you don't get ripped off.

I noticed you're in Corona. What shop is your car at? You may want to pull it out of there and take it to Don Lee Auto Center in Rancho Cucamonga on Foothill Blvd. They do a lot of work on 4th gens, and are honest too.:^)

Was that a comment about the notoriously leaky rear main seals? :-)

hey thanks for the advice.. actually this is going to sound weird, my freinds is a HEAD MECHANIC for FORD, LOL and he will be fixing it for free at his shop, I am just paying for parts and Beer anytime he wants it.. It was actually the Smog guy that told me it needed a TPS sensor. I gave my Freind 500 dollars to cover the parts and told him to let me know if he needed more money.. But so far, I estimate all the parts should come up to about 500 bucks if he has to do a break job.. Right now I am not getting charged for any labor..

Automatic Windows Module should be around 50 bucks a piece total 100.00 dollars.

AC - If it needs a Compressor no more than 175, if it needs something else cheaper

Front Brakes - if it needs brakes pad about 70 bucks, if the Rotors needed shaving, it's all labor, so I should be find, if it needs rotors, maybe ? I don't know how much the rotors would cost?

Service Engine Soon - Still waiting for the Diagnosis to come back, hopefully nothing big?

Is there some way to prevent this, or are there any better rear main seals on the market then the originals. Since you noted a problem, I might as well have my guy take a look ?

I dont think he meant the rear main seals, but rather the seals on the back of the bottom of the intake manifold. Theyre notorious for leaking on LT1's ...

All I can say, is a guy that buys a fixer upper and is not mechanically inclined, better have a good and honest support team. A person could go for a long, bumpy ride.
