With decent tuning (not one size fits all mail order BS), I'd drive a 236/242-110-112 on a stockk shortblock & 3.42 daily... and probably wouldn't have any major issues.

It's only a big cam in a mediocre setup

Sounds like a good choice to me.

I am doing a heads/cam/long tube swap this srping and I am going with the 236/242/112 XE grind. My heads are fully ported, bigger valves, but I dont have any flow numbers yet. The shortblock is stock but I will be having the car dyno tuned to get the most out of it. I allready have 3.73 gears and the 3200 Vig will be updated to either a 3800 or 4000 stall. My car is only a weekend driver and never leaves the state. THe farthest I drive it is 75 miles to the track one way and thats it. I am going to use this cam for this year, and if I dont like it, I may swap next winter or sometime this summer to the GM 847 cam or a custom grind. I have heard this cam in person, but it was in a 396 and to me it sounded great. IMO, I love the sound of a motor with a big lope, but thats me. I have personally rode in many cars with big cams like my dads '70 Chevelle LS6 454 with a 256/266 solid cam. Now thats what you call a big lope, and he drives it all the time on the street during the summer. I mean it bucks around a little bit with a stick, but oh well. IMO, go with the 236/242 on a 112 or a 114.

Have the 230/236/112LS XE in my six speed MTI 396 Corvette. Makes 415RWHP/425ft-lbs on the stock 24# injectors. 30# injectors and some tuning would probably get alittle more. Car has a nice lope and does not die at idle but its on the edge. Great Cam. Runs 400+ to 6100 RPM's.

Trey,
I wasnt sure, but were you saying the 4500 is too big for my car?? If you were, I wasnt planning on going to something that big. I am going to try the 3200 for the mean time and see how it works. After the tranny goes out, I will probably upgrade to the lucky #7 or the Vig 3600 as some call it. That will probably be as big as I go for converter wise. So Trey, how do you like the 236/242?? Does that cam have any low end to it, or does it like to rev to the sky?? I am looking at shifting mine at about 6500 rpm. I dont really want to go much higher with the stock bottom end for now. If you want to email me privately about the 236/242, go ahead so that we dont take up precious space on the board bs'ing. Later man

Am running the xe 230/236 on a 110 lsa.Do not have any problems with stalling at idle. This is a tuning issue.Am running a 4000 stall on a 770r4 tranny.Have had valve train trouble.(creacked valve and bent push rod),but this is from over reving.I drive the car on the street but would not want to drive it on any long trips. When I go to a 383 might change cams to 236/242 with a higher lsa.

So, what I'm gathering is as long as you do the proper periphials, IE: ported/polished heads, larger valves, upgraded valvetrain, ported intake, injectors, fuel pump and tuning (LT1_edit...will that do?) then the 236/242 cam with 1.6 rr's making lift of .561/.575 will do just fine on a stock bottom end 94 Z28, A4??

If so, then I'm a happy camper, cuase thats EXACTLY what I'm doing right now...car should be put together by this sunday (the 28th of June).
Oh, I'm also adding longtubes and a true dual exhaust...

Granted, the occasional malfunctioning machines come into play, but I'm just trying to get some reassurance.

I searched before I purchased, but I guess maybe I'm getting paranoid since I'm so close to finishing...

think you got mixed up there trey, more intake duration will bump power higher, not lower.

EDIT: Peak power on the 236/242 is gonna be WAY up in them rpm band possibly even over 7k depending on how the heads flow. You cant rev over 7k. IMO i would rather have a slightly smaller cam, have more power in the mid range where the car is most of the time, and sacrifice 10-15 hp on the very very top end. 236/242 is way to big for a 350 wit ha rev limit of 7k.

Video of the XE 230/236 112 LSA cam in a 383 setup in my signature below. Ignore the high idle on startup. That was a tuning issue.

Right click and save to your PC Poor Traction link.

The XE 230/236 will sound pretty close to the lope of a cc306 in a 350 setup.

If this is too much lope for you, you might wanna consider going with an XE 224/230 cam with a 114 LSA.

I have the 236 242 in my stroker. It is not good on the street. I drive two footed. My 1-2 shift is at 6200, ans 2-3 shift is at 6400 at the track. I do have CNC heads, 1.6 rr's, and longtubes...

6500 is a fairly high shift point.

People make choices. For me having a deadly consistent bracket car thast I can drive on the street is what I choose so I put up with 10mpg, poor idle, poor ride, to get my 1.5-1.6 sixty foot time and ET's within .02 on a consistent basis.

In my opinion, if you want something that sounds good and idles well so you can look and feel cool, 235 242 is too much on a stock bottom end.

where is your proof that CC306 will make less power then xe grind? There are planny of people hittin 400+ with CC306. I only know one person on this board that hit 400+ with the XE 230/236 cam.

The GM 847 cam is good too, makes decent power up to 6500 or so. 234/242 cam.
