Cam "walk-out" plate? "shoebox again please"

Is it really needed on the Lt1? I mean the stub keeps the rear somewhat in check, (maybe more with a full dissy) and the opti should keep the front in check. Why can't be just junk the thing? Just wondering what you guys think about it.

Roller cams must have some way of keeping the cam from "walking". Too much thrust on the distributor will trash it. I would not recommend removing it.

What if you replace the roller with a hydraulic flat tappet cam?

I think I have read where a few people have done this. I don't believe the retainer is needed in that situation. It would be good to get some input from others that are more expert in this matter than me.

Agreed, that's what I was wondering. I don't think it would either, but I can't seem to find anyone who's done this. (that will post anyway)

Just found out all about the plate and an extensive lesson on roller vs. flat tappet.

You do not need the plate with a HFT cam, you do need it for a roller as the cam cannot move more that 5 thousandths either way. If you run a roller cam in an older block you have to use a cam button and a sturdy front cover. (depnds on block)
