I think if you go with the right person, a custom cam and tune will definitely be better than any shelf grind. Cam designers can get access to custom lobes from manufacturers that you and I cannot even buy if we wanted to because they are only available to that designer. Bret Bauer is the most popular around here, but there are several out there. Thunder racing puts a lot of testing and research into their cams as well, so you might want to give them a call.
