224/230 is a great daily driver cam, I had loads of fun with it

Obviously any of the 3 mentioned will be fine and are quite similar. If I had it to do over again (stock heads), I'd have no problem going the XE.

224/230 is my vote. Makes power throughout the whole rpm range. I got my car with street tire and shorties in the 12.7-12.8 @ 110 w/ that cam.

Try looking into the GM 846. All those are great proven cams though.

Re: cam time soon ...3 choices need help

I've been looking at the cc305 cam for awhile now and ready to buy soon but I call around to get recommendations for a setup regarding the valvetrain and they shoot me towards the xe 224/230...everytime. Now, I'm getting interested in this cam but I need to pass smog. Does it pass smog like the cc305? And also how much higher does the xe 224/230 push me up the rpm band and the comparison the the cc305. I'm wanting a low to mid feel of a cam for my shorty headers, weekend hell driving. I plan to use stock heads, 3xxx stall. I love hard launches and zipping past nose pickers on the freeway.
It's taking me almost two years to figure what cam I want and everything else, anyone else beating their head like I am.

yea ive been just like you man, thinkin everything through....almost too much lol, well if u want to stay safe for emmissions get the hotcam (ive heard) but im in cali too but im sayin f-it im gettin a bigger cam, if it doesnt pass emmissions ill figure something out but its a mid - upper rpm range cam similar to the 305 i believe, im not sure of all of this , its like an educated guess (im like 75 % sure).

Re: cam time soon ...3 choices need help

I'm going with a 224/236 XE grind, but on a 114 lsa since I'm blown. I heard this cam passed smog on a 383, hope it will on my little 355 too. At least it will be another year before I find out. I passed with the hotcam no problems at all, ran almost as clean as stock. I do have the flp longtubes which adds an extra cat converter, so that helps clean it up too.

You have a better chance to pass with a higher lsa with a bigger cam because of less overlap. Less overlap is good for nitrous, blowers, turbos. But, it also is good for reducing emissions.

I just ordered the 846 last week from thunder racing. Its listed as a crane cam though, its the one on the bottom of the page under the 210/224. I'm hopin it puts out some nice #'s.

It barley has any intake lift, the #'s are .511/.553. Thats the main reason I'm puttin in the 846, the 210/224 has barley any intake duration and lift.
