Cam swap went bad

I recently did a camp swap. I opted for crane's 10308 valve spring kit, cc306, cadillac racing lifters, comp cam chromemoly 7.2 pushrods, and 1.6 SA comp cam pro mag roller rockers. Please also note I have a delteq.

I went to do the initial start up and it sounds like shart. no backfiring. I have the "sewing machine" noise on the odd numbered bank. even after adjusting zero lash and preload the noise is still there (brand new lifters and the car has sat for a while, they just need to warm up.... but it's reall y loud... the owner of the shop thought I had tightened down one of the poly locks too far).

and the worse part... cylinders 4, 7, 6, and 1 aren't firing. It sounds like crap and those primaries on my headers were cold to the touch while they other ones were hot. Also a strong smell a fuel

and ideas?

obviously the problem is with your ignition.

Get it firing on all 8 cylinders and go from there. Not many people on here use the delteq.

You need to check the pushrod length when using those lifters.

As for the cylinders not firing, you may have a blown injector fuse. 4, 7, 6 and 1 are on the same circuit.

We all know you know a lot of crap about LT1's, but that is an extremely rare piece of information.

I'm guessing he was trying to pay a compliment to Shoebox's amazing depth of knowledge on the LT1....

It may not Danhr's problem, but it perfectly fits the his description of his symptoms...

I read LT1 Tech several times a day and always seek out Shoebox's posts, because I frequently learn something...

I have found blown fuses after I thought my "superior" troubleshooting abilty had failed me...lol

I allways check fuses first.

well thank you all for hijacking my thread.

Thanks shbox... I won't be able to check anything until this weekend. Stupid question though... if the injector fuse is blown.... wouldn't ALL of the injectors not fire, and not just half of them? Not questioning you, just trying to edumicate myself

I had this happen on a buddies car.. He didn't know what went wrong after his cam install.. Fuse was the first thing i checked.. There are 2 of them. 1 for 4,7,6,1 and the other 1 for 2,3,5,8.. They should be 7.5 amp fuse's.

As said, there are two injector fuses, each for half of the injectors (so you don't lose all of them with a blown fuse). Welcome to class.

I guess I need to go back to school. It appears in 1996 that they changed to one fuse powering all injectors. Your scenario seemed to fit so perfectly, darn!

Have you checked the injectors with a noid light or used a meter to check for power at the pink injector wire?
