cam swap, something weird

i swapped my old hot cam out for a new xfi cam and when i go to do the timing and line up the dots, i realized that the crank does not have a dot to line anything up to, whats going on here? anyone ever run into this problem?

thanks

The crank gear has the dot, not the crank.

You mean the crank gear doesn't have a dot to line up w/ the cam gear?
I know what you meant, but are you sure the crank timing gear has not been put on wrong?

Don't the timing gears only go on a certain way? Isn't there a grove that aligns the gear properly? can't he use that to make a dot... or am I imagining things? it's been a while.

I've never seen a gear without a marking. Something weird here.
