Cam Swap questions, are these all the gaskets I need? and more :)

Ok, should be ordering my cam kit from cmotorsports soon

Here's what I'll be getting.

N224K
Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 224/230 Cam .536"/.544" Lift
Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 Rocker Arms, Self Aligning
CM612 Valve Springs
CM126 Chromoly Retainers
CM007 7 Degree Hardened Locks

GM LT4 Extreme Duty Timing Set #12370835

Gaskets

Intake Manifold Gasket Kit #12524653
TB Gasket #10105379 (plan on cleaning up my TB and removing it)
Timing cover gasket #10128293
Opti Seal #12552428
Water Pump Gasket #10128343
WP Drive Seal Gasket (I'll order 2 just in case) #12553792

Will this do it? Thunder wants like $84 for the kit with all the gaskets but it has stuff I don't need like EGR gaskets and valve cover gaskets which IMO can be reused no problem. And if it can't it's common enough to pick up locally after the fact.

Am I goign to need anything else? Aside from some Dino oil for startup and some synthetic for afterwards.... (and coolant)

For the timing cover/opti/water pump, I'd get (and did) the Felpro kit at Autozone. It will have all of that crap for about $14. They'll also have Felpro intake gaskets (dunno about the TB one though) if you want.

Don't forget coolant!

New lifters? I went Crane's when I did my swap. BTW - looks like the same combo I'm running right now. You're going to have a blast when it's done

XE 224/230, Pro Mags, Cloyes, CSI, etc..

Hmm about the lifters, most of what I read has indicated that unless there is an actual problem with the lifters they are generally fine under .550" lift. The car's got 73k miles on it and has not skipped a beat, running perfectly. How much did the Crane's run ya?

Sounds like a good price on the FelPro Kit .. I'll have to stop by and get that instead. Thanks!

I ran a cc306 with stock lifters for 8 months with no problems.

Don't forget about the rubber seals for the crossover tube that runs to the back of the heads. They are kinda pricey about $3-4 a seal and you need 4

Make sure you have a dremmel tool to scrub all the old gasket off the throttlebody, waterpump, intake manifold, and the timing cover. The dremmel tool make things alot easier, that old gasket crap in a pita to take off sometimes. Oh...and dont forget about about the oilpan...another pain in the azz to get to especially if your an automatic. You have to disconnect the coolant feed for the tranny to get to some of the bolts for the oil pan. I resused my old lifters and havent had a problem out of them yet. Im using comp918 double coil springs for my 224/236 blower grind cam. Same duration but not as much lift without the 1.6rr. Good luck!

One more thing - 11/32 Umbrella type valve seals.

As for the lifters - sure, if the stockers are ok, no point in spending the $$ on new ones. I did my cam swap at about 102k miles... I felt lifters were needed.

Dremel Tool.. check! got that thanks for the tip, i'll go buy some more wheels for it...

Valve seals... is this just a stock replacement type thing I should do while I'm in there? Never really torn into a valvetrain before, so anymore info on that would be great

I'm not sure why you'd need a TB gasket - it's rubber and IMO, reusable.

Hehehe...if you rip it, you are REALLY trying. Well, I can't recall if the STOCK gasket is paper, but mine is a thick rubber gasket - it should last forever.
