Is this cam surge?

Hey guys ive got my car back up and running but i still dont have a tune yet. The car runs good for about 5-10 minutes and then it starts bucking and misfiring...i turn the car off for about 10 seconds and turn it back on and it will run fine and smooth for another 5-10 minutes. Will a tune fix this or not?

thanks
james

Cam surge is when you're in first gear at idel and the car wants to buck instead of moving at a steady pace. Not sure what your issue is...closed loop mod, using the O2 sensors as feedback, occurs after 2 minutes, not 5 - 10 minutes. Double check that all your sensors are connected (temp sensor in driver's side head, MAF sensor) and verify no intake leaks.

I disagree, cam surge can happen in any gear and usually happens while cruising. Depending on how big the cam is you may have surging anywhere between 1000-2000rpms. Surging will most likely be the worst when cruising in parking lots at low rpms such as 1st gear at 5-10mph or on the freeway at low rpms.

I have mild cam surge around 2k with my cc306. Your problem seems to be elsewhere but i will let someone else help you with it because i don't want to misslead you.

lol it may be the o2s but im hoping my tune will fix it...i also think that my cable from akm will com with some data logging software and that should help me to pinpoint the problem. Its weird though if i just keep driving without shutting the car off the problem will eventually go away and then come back after another few minutes...maybe its not quite 5-10.

Cam surge happens when you are cruising at low throttle. I noticed cam surge in my cc306 when i was cruising about 1200 rpm at about 40 mph. Once I got the RPM up it stopped. It also didnt surge when I was cruising at 1200 on the highway with more throttle.

Doesnt sound like cam surge. You prolly have a tuning or sensor issue.

that is your pcm switching back and forth from open to closed loop. You should see a check engine light when this is happening. Use a laptop to datalog the pcm output and check what the o2s are showing. That is most likely where your problem is. 1 or both of them need to be changed.

Is cam surge bad for your car? How annoying is it?

I like to drive at about 1500rpm so would a cc306 be a bad choice for me?

its annoying. but nothing you cant work around or deal with. if i start to get a little surge, i usually just give it a little more gas and cruise a little faster or just down shift.
