which cam should i go with?

what's a good cam to go with? i want to notice a reasonable hp increase and hear a healthy "chop" but, i dont' want to fill up everyday and cruise at 4k rpm. is a gm hot cam a good cam? or should i go with someone else? what are the specs on a gm hot cam? i couldn't find them on jegs. thanks for the input.

Click on "Search" type in your search criteria = example would be Cam Upgrades and press enter. You'll get all of the posts on this subject from day one. Do your research there first. This subject has been beat to DEATH over the years.

you will love the hotcam...Great power, great streetability. The hotcam is a 218/227 525lift on a 112. I chose to upgrade. I now have a 240/240 595/595 112. Right now I hate it because It is untuned. Hopefully it changes when it gets tuned.!

I have to disagree with "you'll love the Hot Cam". It'll eat up low end torque and take away vacuum. On a 383 engine - OK! That's what it really works with - but not a 350 engine that isn't built HOT.

Read comments and prior questions in the SEARCH section. It'll answer a lot of questions for you and give you an education in the "beast".

You got emission testing where you are at??? You have to really watch what you do if that is the case.

You can't just plop a big cam in there and be legal to drive.

An LT4 hotcam can pass emissions, along with maybe a CC305. A larger cam than those will be borderline..and you might get flagged.

People will always say whats "the best", based on their own personal situations, but you cant always do that.

The hotcam specs with 1.6 roller rockers are .525/.525 218/228 on a 112 lsa.

if you read his first post, he wants somewhat streetable cam with a good "chop". The hotcam will be just fine. As for vaccuum, any cam is going to take vaccuum, if it is somewhat a good size. If your gonna do a cam swap to put in a crappy cc304 or something you rather not waste your money or your time...
