Which cam should I get GM847 or Comp 306

I am going to order a cam tomorrow and I am still unsure if I am getting the best cam or not for my setup.

I have been trying to decide whether to get the Comp 306 or the GM 847. I am leaning towards the Comp 306. Is this the best one for me?

96 Trans Am, LT1 383 Stroker, LT1 Stage 3 P&P heads, Hooker LTs

I am currently NOT using nitrous but I plan on using nitrous soon.

I know the 306 is good with nitrous, what about the GM 847?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

cc306 is to me extremely mild in my heads/cam stock bottom car so with your 383 i wouldnt get a 306, if i were you i would get a custom grind.

How expensive are the custom grinds?

How long does it take to get one?

Who should I call about a custom grind?

What info do I need to have on my motor and heads when ordering one?

Sorry I have so many questions about this. I just want to get a cam that will work well with my setup.

Thanks.

I have paid from 350$ to 425 for a custom grind cam. You will leave a little on the table by going with an off the shelf cam, but fbetween the two I would go the GMPP cam.

I called Comp today and talked with them about my setup and which cam that I should get. This is what they recommended to me.

The cam seems kind of small to me but I expect that they know what they are talking about. The guy also said that often times people think bigger is better but that it is not necessarily the case. Often people go too big for their setup.

Again, I would appreciate any input that you might have here in regards to what Comp was recommending to me.

P/N = 07-000-9

Billet cam
Grind # 3315/3316
HR 112 +4
Small base circle

Specs:
XE
230 / 236
544 in / 555 ex ( with my 1.6 Comp rockers)

cost $310.79

Thanks for your help

You can buy that cam from Summit or Jegs for about 245$, I had that same cam in my 383 after the 224/230 XE proved way to small. it Was nice, made good broad power, but in the 383 it still piddled out just shy of 6 grand. The 847 will rev well past that if I wanted to.
