Thank you. I didnt have time to root around and find the numbers. Both nice cams, I think the gm847 produces more power though.

Anyone have dyno runs with the CC306 or the 847 on stock heads? I would like to compare the HP and TQ numbers up to about 5700 RPM between those cams and the XE224/230 or the CC305.

Going fast is not all about peak HP, especially when peak HP is at about 6500 rpm. It's more about area under the curve for HP and TQ in the usable rpm range. Plus those cams are not going to be as streetable as the CD305 or the XE224/230. Everyone has a different tolerance level for cam surge/lopy idle/ mpg...

Personally, I want a cam with better low end grunt and HP numbers that max about 6000 rpm. Anything more than that is putting a lot of stress on the valvetrain and everything else, especially with the lift numbers mentioned on those cams. Having the power lower in RPM is also much better for the street, because you're not always up in the 5-6K rpm range, unless you drive like a mad man 24/7.

More power to ya if you like those big cams, but it's not for me. My $0.02

Dan

Thanks for all your replies guys. Hey Grease, with ported heads you were making 412 to the wheels with this cam, how many miles do you have on your shortblock and have you done anything too it? And what do you shift at?

77000 miles on the stock bottom end with nothing done to it. I have alot of bolt-ons. I started burning a quart of oil every 500 miles and a trip back to the dyno showed I was down to 408rwhp, 365rwtq.
I guess having a 11.9:1 compression ratio and winding the engine up to 6800 everyday will cause the engine to wear out faster. I usually shift at about 6400rpm because thats where the power leveled off on the dyno.

You are absolutely right. If you want a lopey idle, scare the crap out of everyone who goes for a ride in your car and recieve compliments about you car then this is the cam for you. But get used to cam surge, low power under 2500rpm and poor gas milage.

Is this cam any good for nitrous? Or is there too much overlap. Just wondering, eventually I would like to do the bottom end and nitrous.

Hey Grease, what kind of bad gas mileage do you get? I have a friend with a cam similar to this one and he said if he absolutely babies it, he can get 18 mpg, with a 383. How did you get your compression that high with out touching the bottom end?? I will have another car to drive, so I want to be able to scare the **** out of everyone who rides in my car. I want that cam. Oh yeah, I sent you a pm.
