Cam selection 383
Cam selection 383
I am currently running a cam I had on a 358 and seemed pretty lopey but with this bigger displacement it seems to have calmed it down abit. the specs are 230/236 .51/.52 and 112lsa. this will be a weekend driven car, my intentions are prolly best stated that it will have 325/50/15 DRs on the back. lol. My build is as follows. the reason that I am thinking about doing this is that im havin oil pressure issues with this fresh 383 and am goin to pull it out and have a machine shop look everything over. I think my CR is around 12:3+ but Im not sure.
LT1 383 SHORTBLOCK –
SCAT 3.75 STROKE CRANKSHAFT
SCAT FORGED 5.7 I-BEAM RODS
SPEED PRO FORGED PISTONS 2 valve reliefs flat tops
TOTAL SEAL MOLY RINGS
CLEVITE 77
Custom ground cam .510/.520 lift 230/236 duration 112LSA
GM performance 1.6 ratio full roller rockers
Ported stock heads with enlarged 2.02/1.06 valves milled slighty
Ported stock LT1 intake
37lb Delphi injectors
BBK 52mm throttle body
MSD 6A and blaster coil
Meziere Electric water pump

anyone?? I have been playin around with some different cam profiles on Dyno2000 software and it seems that I would only gain around 15hp or tq with another grind. this doesnt seem right but thats what it says. Any builders out there??
the duration is plenty big but theres no lift or lsa, with the guy above on this one. Or maybe something like a 232/240 .590/.600 110 i dont really know too much about the specs but it seems you need something bigger. What rpm did that custom turn in the 358?
You decide.
right I understand that it depends on my perspective. I'm battling an oil pressure issue right now and if it comes to the point of a complete tear down then I will do it otherwise I might just stick with the cam I have, just curious that cam that was mentioned would that have greater tq also or fairly comparable...I havent even had the chance to take my car out since the 383 install but I think it sounds pretty tame. My goal was to have a 400rwhp car NA...Im thinking I might be a bit short

That cam can do it - you just need to get everything else on the engine right first.
I had 3 different companies that do custom cams spec out a cam for my set-up (simular to yours but about a half a point less compression.) and for a street strip auto with 3.73 gears and 3600 # race weight, staying HR with the valvetrain, they were all in the 240/244 .050 duration, 110 to 112 lobe sep and around .600 lift on both sides all 3 had a 107 ILC. I bought the one from cam dynamics (billet ,small base circle).
