Cam Removal handle

Anyone know where to get one that will work with LT1 camshafts?

Go to a hardware store and buy a couple of long bolts with the right thread pattern. All you need is something to hold onto when you pull the cam out. Put the bolts into the end of the cam and wrap a rag around them to make it easier to hold onto.

You can just use the bolts that hold the cam gear on. Thread the three bolts in, just enough for them to hold (couple threads) and slide the cam out.

Like they said use those bolts, you'll need 3 - 5/16" bolts - 3" long

I got 3 long bolt from the hardware store as mentioned above. Or you could remove the timing gear, remove the retainterplate, reinstall the timing gear and remove it with that. Even cheaper than buying 3 bolts!

The three short bolts that hold the timing gear on are plenty to remove the cam. You just have to get it far enough out to get your hands on the first journal.

It would be one that would work with any SBC cam. Auto parts store or speed shop.

Just use the 3 5/16 x 3 inch bolts, they should cost less than $1.00. If your removing the cam with the motor in the car, just remove the bolts after you have the cam about half out otherwise the bolts will hit the hood latch.

i used a 6" 3/8 drive extension, i just put it into the end of the cam and used it as a lever to guide it through the bearings....
