cam recomendation

Im putting together a 355 lt1. Using stock heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, competition radius valve job, lots of bowl work, teardrop guide bosses, gasket match job, and comp beehives, but the runners havent been worked to much. From what I understand this will help low lift numbers alot but not high lift. Already have crane 1.6 RRs. Static Compression around 10.8:1. 6 gear with 3.42s. Looking for the nastiest Idle I can get, and lots of top end power. Anyone have recomendation please?

Talk to "SSmoked" I believe is his name, he lives in parma and you can hear his in person. Its a milder cam, hardly noticeable depending on the LSA.

With that much work done to those heads - were they flowed on a flowbench? This data would be very useful in helping you select a camshaft.

Re: cam recomendation

If you want the nastist idle you can get then this is what you should use. Depending on your flow numbers and if your heads are not shaved. I have used this cam before and pulls hard and sounds great. 230/236-550/565@108. With the 1.6 you will be about .580/.595. This cam has a great idle with longtubes. Dont go ahead and get this though...we need to know what else your running engine parts etc. List your stuff in your sig or post it. If you really want some power, go solidroller.

Re: cam recomendation

Some questions about your combo...

Why only 10.8:1 compression? What numbers are you using to arrive at 10.8:1?

What is your quech?

You should really have the heads flowed. This will determine a realistic rpm. Then you get an ideal of what cam rpm range your looking for.

Emissions?

Exhaust?

Re: cam recomendation

You should not have gotten springs until you selected a cam. A "nasty idle" isn't much of a way to pick a cam. But FWIW, the way to get it is with a lot overlap and an early IVO event. IOW - a big cam with a small LSA. This is NOT the wqay to pick a cam with nice street manners, however. Or even how to pick one with max street perfromance as it will tend to have a high, narrow powerband.

I'm with krause. Any knowledgeable gearhead should not be impressed by a "nasty" idle. Because it is just that, a nasty idle due to the wrong cam choice.
Easy pickings in a two-by.

Get your heads flow checked and send the results to Compcams or Crane (or the manufacturer of your choice). Pick the smallest cam they recommend. You'll be happiest.

I'll run anybody with a big, nasty cam besause 99% of the time it is to big for the engine and they gonna be playing catch up from the green.

Wanna come up to MN?

The CC306 is a good cam. Street manners are not too bad, great sounding idle with open exhaust, and with the heads, should make good power. I am running it with stock heads and not a very high stall and running good times for my combo.

No it's to cold.Come on down here were racing. If you can run better than 9.90 on DR then I can't beat you anyway. But lets take a 100 mile trip and then go to the strip the same night and see.I'm N/A too no power adders.

Re: cam recomendation

Ok, you got me on the times
But on the 100 mile trip, no problem. We can make it 400 if you want(driven it a couple times to Chicago with no problems.) And when I ran my times, I drove the 200 miles to the track(closest one that has good traction) and ran it the same way that it was driven there except I took my subs out.

Re: cam recomendation

I don't think the CC306 qualifies as a big nasty cam. Borderline big for a car with a stock induction system though.
