Cam Questions on a 94 lt1

Hey guys,Im getting really close to yanking the lt1 out. The one thing we all have in common is the need for speed. My car has a few basic bolt ons, CAI,BMR boxed frame connectors, air foil, flowmaster, about a grand in a tune up. It runs strong as hell and is in prob a high 13 second car.I guess it would be a waste to throw the motor in the garbage and build somthing new entirely. My plans are to pull the motor, lightly port the heads, cam it,polish up the crank, throw some pistons in ,RR's,push rods, lifters. Basically freshen up the motor, slap it back together and call it a day. Im looking at about $1500-$2000. My concerns are this. I was told because its a 94,nonvented opti, the hotcam is out of the question,it wouldnt fit and its for 95 and up cars. Ok so what about going a little bigger, with the cc305? Will it "bolt in" no problem. Would i have to change the opti, timing cover etc. I was told i could get somthing custom cut if i had a core, but is it worth it? What can/should i do. I NEED a cam, lol. Any help would be awesome guys.

That's strange, I don't think the camshaft is specific to certain years, as long as the hole for the pin is there to drive the opti you should be fine. The length of the pin is different, but not the hole. You should be fine.

I've never seen any vendors offer cams for just the vented opti crowd. As to your opti taking the added power, who knows. The more power you add the more stress there is on it.

You are gonna need to change out the timing chain and my advice to you is to switch to the vented opti, especially if you have the motor out of the car..... Another piece of advice is to go bigger than the hotcam, i wish i did and now i am having to do another cam swap this summer....
