Cam questions....
I know this may have been asked before but I am not sure how to narrow down the search so I will ask again. What do you guys think the next best bet is for a cam one or two steps above the hotcam? I have been trying to figure out what to go with, and if i can go with a slightly more aggressive cam for a few bucks more and still be emission legal it may be worth it.
Your input is appreciated.

Any other suggestions? Also, what are some rough ideas on prices for these cams? I am trying to see if the extra money will be worth it to go with the more aggressive cam....
Thanks for the help guys
Thanks for the help guys
i believe the 305 with 1.6 roller rockers has a bit more lift than the HOTCAM and since the hotcam is already pushing the valvesprings that come with the kit to the limits,i would recommend going with better springs as well,im not sure on pricing (i dont have a summit on me as im typin this) but i believe the cam is somewhere in the $250 range and valvesprings are about $80-100 more. then add the price of the rockers (unless you have the hotcam kit already, use those rockers) which is about $180 for some 1.6 proforms.then add the price of gaskets and such. (the rockers in the hotcam kit are valued at about $280,they the same as the Crane GOLD race rockers). Anyways i believe theCC305 and the Hotcam might be the biggest you can go and still be expected to pass emmissions though you PROBABLY can pass emmissions with a bigger cam. But what if you dont?are you willin to do the work to put in the stock cam to pass smog the do the work again to get your powah back? I beleiev the 305 will only be marginally better than the hotcam due to increased lift (i dont wanna say how much lift exactly cuz i dont remember but i wanna say about .550 VS. the Hotcams .525) the 305 has a wider lobe separation (114) which might halp it pass smog a bit easier (vs. the Hotcams 112) and has about 2 degrees more duration on intake and exhaust (negligable difference). The 112 lobe separation on the Hotcam would help it breathe a bit more in the higher revs, but kill a bit more TQ then the 305 (most likely due to cylinder pressue loss or mechanical EGR) but obviously the 305's higher lift would probly help make up for the loss of peak power then you add its 2 degree duration advantage.I think im startin to ramble here but we havent even gotten into the timing ground into to cam, mand theres a bunch of **** i forgot but i beleiev the HOTcam has less advance, which would help it rev higher then the 305 (but again make less power under the curve. AHH!!!!!!WTF just get the HOTCam,theyre so closely competitive of eachother that one isnt gonna shine over the other.
