cam question

Ok, I want to put the cc503 cam in my 95 lt1 camaro. Is this the comp cams xtreme energy hydraulic roller cam in jegs (part number 249-07-503-8). If, no when I buy this cam what else am I going to have to buy like intake, tb, stall convertor etc. Any help would be useful, Im going to start buying this stuff. Im tired of the stock motor allready.

Re: cam question

Springs designed for the cam, 1.6 rockers, pushrods (recommended), timing set (chain and sprockets, recommended), a tune (mandatory), basic bolt-ons like CAI, exhaust, headers (recommended), higher stall converter (recommended), lifters if yours are higher mileage and show wear, etc.

TONS of info on the subject. You'll get a buttload of info if you do a quick search.

Re: cam question

^ every thing he said, I would even say the stall is mandatory; It will improve your performance as much as a cam will. If you don't need valve train work I would do the boltons and stall first. The bolton car with a good stall will pull away for a cammed car with stock stall from a stop.

Re: cam question

Can I just install cam in my motor the way it is now or not. I have CAI and cat back exhaust. Or will it not work as well. I still have headers and a y pipe and bbk underdrive pulley that I want to install. Could I install the cam now is that not a good idea. Oh the car has 130,000 on it.

Re: cam question

Springs are 100% necessary, change them or ruin stuff FAST, same with a tune.

Putting a cam in with just those two things though will not make the car appreciably faster. I made the mistake of swapping cams before I had all the other supporting mods and gained little to nothing and that was a smaller cam. Later when I swapped the supporting mods the gain came.

A cam swap is NOT a cheap thing. At this point if you want a nice performance boost for "cheap" something like an Edge converter at I think $540 plus a Transgo kit at up around $100 is probably going to be the most noticeable thing you can do and will help set the stage for a later cam swap.

Re: cam question

I found an lt4 edelbrock intake with 30 lb accel injectors, 58 mm professional products tb, and egr block off plate. He said the intake ports are smoothed and stuff has 400 miles on it. He is asking 550.00 for everything, is this a deal and will it work with the cc503 cam.

Re: cam question

The only thing worthwhile in that combo would be the EGR block-off plates.

The intake won't work since you don't have LT4 heads, not to mention ANY ported LTX intake manifold is a huge waste of $$$ on a cam-only build.

Accel arguably makes the worst electronic components, so steer clear of them. Not to mention for the time being your OEM 24# injectors will work fine.

The 58mm TB is also overkill - until you get into the 400+whp range. The stock one has been shown to support some pretty big power.

Re: cam question

Not to mention the data we have on the Edelbrock intakes ranges from LOSSING power to miniscule gains not vaguely worth the price or effort.
