cam question....

ok guys i am confused... been doing some research around the site and dont know if the 306 is the right cam for me.... here is a list of my mods..

edelbrock heads...slightly worked (yeah i know they suck)
1.6 roller rockers
port matched intake
longtube headers
basically all the bolt ons throttle body CAI ... etc. etc.

also going to have a 2800 stall converter, and going to be running nitrous maybe a 100 or 150 shot

the shortblock is going to be redone as well

do you guys think the 306 will work for my set-up or be too big?? should i go with another cam to get the most out of what i got???

any help would be appreciated

mike

well, what are your goals for the car? street car, or track car? We need more info.
Also, what gears do you have?
Personally, i would get something like a cc503 for a fun, very streetable car

so, that brings us to our next question:
what do you want to run at the track.
Where do you want to shift at?

i want to run as fast as possible and still keep the car decently streetable, and i dont care what the shift points have to be.... but the shortblock has just been freshened up with new bearings and rings, nothing fancy so i guess i would want to shift as high as safely possible. i have noticed some people are revving there stock shortblock to 7600-6800 if i am reading some of the older posts correctly... but how safe is that?? i come from the ford side, and have no knowledge of gm products and how well there factory parts handle certain things..... thanks for the info guys

Id go with a gm847 before i went with a cc306, but, also looka t the lunati 60122.

Id say either call advancedinductions.com, or lloyd elliot (eportworks.com) and get one of the stage 2 setups

so i take it a factory fresh shortblock will rev to 67-6800 rpm's with the right valvetrain??? obviously i wont be doing it very often but just wandering how safe that really is and i realize from posts i read the gm 847 and cc 306 make power until then and need to be shifted aroudn there for optimal results...

I'm not sure what a factory fresh block will rev to, its not the power that kills the shortblocks, its the RPMs, but with new bearings, you may be okay, but you may not.
Just do the cc503 w/ a 150 shot of nitrous, and be faster than a cc306 car

503. It's what I run and it has been awesome. Perfect balance.
